Debug on Cortex-M made cheap and easy
Often, development environment for bare-metal application on microcontrollers are all integrated: the famous IDE acronym. In this session, I want to show that you can compile, run and debug bare-metal programs with only few required tools and programs: the GNU-arm Toolsuite, a gdb-server, text editor of your choice and a terminal.
In this session, we will look at:
- How to flash and debug on different Cortex-M targets: STM32H7, STM32F4, RP2040, RP2350
- Use open-source or light (less expensive) debuggers: JLink-EDU, BlackMagic Probe, STLink, Raspberry Debug Probe
- How to run a gdb-server with openOCD for all those targets
- Configure VSCode to bind on different gdb-server, and run a debug session from it
- How to start a debug session with gdb-server and gdb only in terminal (for the purists)
- For each mentioned target, run ThreadX with a couple of tasks
Technologies and tools used:
CMake, C, GNU ARM Toolchain, VSCode, bash terminal
This event will be held in English.
